STRAINRITE

Picture

Introducing

Picture
Filter, liquid filtration, cartridges, filter bags, Strainrite
Once again, The Strainrite Companies delivers true filtration innovation by combining only the positive qualities of resin-bonded cartridges with the proven advantages of a Strainrite premium quality filter bag. The BRB-AA filter bag combines the benefits of added filter area with a resin-bonded filter medium that provides extra-ordinary life and high quality filtration for coatings, resins, paints, and adhesives. The non-compressible filter medium is ideal for high viscosity fluids. The phenolic-resin impregnated filter medium is tolerant to temperatures of 250°F when used with polyester hardware.

BRB-AA users gain the non-compressible media depth of a resin filter, along with the greatly enhanced solids loading capacity and cost saving features of a Strainrite gradient-density filter bag. This product excels in a wide variety of high viscosity fluid filtration applications where authoritative removal of problematic gels is required.

These “hard body” filter bags represent a significant advancement in the utilization of rigid fiber technology and illustrate the leadership role The Strainrite Companies plays in supplying vision and  technical leadership when designing and manufacturing liquid filter bags.

Why buy the BRB-AA?

The BRB-AA is a resin-bonded medium with fixed pore structure
  • Filter medium does not compress to choke off flow:
A non-compressible medium is better for high viscosity fluids
  • Better quality filtration:
Some customers may use a coarser filter with a traditional, compressible medium to compensate for difficulty filtering, causing quality to suffer

The BRB-AA has more surface area
  • Longer life, more throughput, less cost:
The depth of resin bonded logs is often not fully utilized

The BRB-AA is a flexible platform
  • More choices:
A bag filter housing can accept the BRB Resinator AA bag, the BRB Resinator Bag and the Visc-MAXX filter – and a range of other products

The BRB-AA utilizes inside-to-outside flow
  • Contaminants caught on inside:

The BRB-AA is a Strainrite-controlled filter medium
  • Availability, dependability, quality:
Several resin bonded filter competitors have stopped manufacturing. We carefully control the manufacture and quality of our materials

The BRB-AA is non-shedding
  • Cleaner filter effluent:
Some resin bonded logs shed fibers when tapped on a table (or when filtering liquid)

The BRB-AA utilizes no glues
  • Cleaner effluent, reliable construction:
Some resin bonded log filters are made in 10” nominal lengths and glued together to make longer elements.

Performance

Picture
A resin bonded log can sometimes load only at its outer surface, in which case its effective surface area is only 0.5 ft² per 10” length.  Although with ideal depth loading the effective surface area might be 1.5 ft² per 10” length, many depth-filter users are not getting maximum depth utilization from their resin bonded filters.
Strainrite’s resin bonded filter media filters offer the benefit of depth while providing more surface-area, resulting in disproportionately longer life and fewer filters used.

Strainrite Filters Offer:
• More surface area in the same footprint
• Longer life
• Higher throughput
• Less changeout labor
• Overall cost savings
• Enhanced contamination control
• Reduced rejected or quarantined product

Flexibility

Picture
BRB Resinator filter bag AA style with added area:  70% more surface area than typical bag – resulting in longer life. 50% less holdup volume than standard bag. Contaminants trapped on inside!

Picture
BRB Resinator filter bag: The standard bag has nearly 5 gal fill capacity for those high-solids loading applications where contaminants form a porous cake. Contaminants trapped on inside!

Picture
Visc-MAXX pleated filter: With 18 sq ft in a 27” long (P2) cartridge, this filter can replace up to 36 standard 10” resin bonded filter logs. This filter is used where longer filter life and maximized throughput are essential. Contaminants trapped on inside!

Success Stories

Picture
AUTOMOTIVE PAINT
Application: Manufacturing/filtering of paint for car refinishing
Process: Batch portable cart
Problems: Problem batches were not meeting specifications and were put on hold. These batches often needed to be re-filtered multiple times. When customer could not meet specification with standard bag filters, as a last resort they would use disposable capsule packs with six 10” tall competitor’s resin bonded cartridges
Implications: The disposable packs were so expensive that they were only tried as a last resort, and in the meantime days of production could be held up as they tried to refilter multiple times
Strainrite Brand: Resinator
Strainrite Part Number: BRB25P2SHS
Details: The customer used the Resinator product to replace the capsule packs with resin bonded filters and achieve the same results. Product / paint once filtered was within specifications
Need Payoff: Not only does customer save $125 each time a BRB25P2SHS is used instead of a Clean Pack, but they can ship more product out the door each year. Estimated $75,000 per year savings on filters alone

Picture
AUTOMOTIVE COATING
Application: Viscous Automotive Coatings
Process: Coating filtered before container filling
Problems: With problem batches, customer was not able to achieve appreciable flow through traditional bag filters at the required micron rating. Customer then used vibrating screen technology, difficult to set up and extremely slow
Implications: The vibrating screen required additional labor and setup and delayed production schedules
Strainrite Brand: Visc-MAXX pleated resin bonded fliter
Strainrite Part Number: VSCMX25P1CP-APH
Details: By using the Visc-MAXX filter, customer is able to process batches in a timely fashion and able to achieve required quality levels
Need Payoff: Estimated $75,000 per year savings in production time

Picture
GYM FLOOR VARNISH
Application: Varnish for Gym floors
Process: Filter the varnish before packaging
Problems: The customer couldn’t get the competitor’s 75 micron resin bonded product anymore
Implications: The customer was not able to produce without ability to filter the product
Strainrite Brand: CRB-Pleat: Continuous Resin-Bonded Depth
Strainrite Part Number: CRB100-30C1B-MC
Details: CRB cartridge proved to have a better seal and produce a cleaner varnish. End user switched to our CRB product because of the quality of the end product and the fact that the competing filter manufacturer was no longer supplying their product
Need Payoff: The customer could now get the filters they needed to run their process and generate revenue! In addition, they produced a better quality product much to the pleasure of their marketing department and customers. Inability to produce would have cost the customer $millions/year

Picture
FINGER PAINTS
Application: Finger Paint
Process: Batch feed from totes
Problems: White specs in finished product (thought to be raw material not mixed in properly). Paint had to be filtered 3 to 5 times to remove the white specs. This was done using gravity feed
Implications: Customer returns or long production time; sometimes the filtering would take 24 hours
Strainrite Brand: Strainrite Value series bag housing, Resinator AA bags
Strainrite Part Number: SRVB-1B-2V-SO/BO / BRB200P1M-SL-AA
Details: Designed a system to remove white specs in finger paint using a filter cart with pump. Customer was able to remove the contaminants in a single pass, reducing production time. The filter was sized large enough that it wouldn’t have to be changed during filtration, reducing mess
Need Payoff: The filter cart we designed cut the paint production time by over 12 hours, and produced a product without any white specs, reducing or eliminating returns. As a result, the customer saved an estimated $50,00 per year in production time

New AA Basket and Insert

Upgrading from a traditional bag to an AA (Added Area) filter bag increases surface area which often increases filter life, improves product throughput, reduces labor, and decreases overall filter cost in a disproportionate way.
The only accessory needed is an AA insert or AA basket.
